B&D, If you find a used one, be sure to check out the valves and replace them if they are old. A neighbor gave me an old tank last year and I had it filled. 'Didn't use any of the gas last winter, as I didn't get my shop heater hooked up. One day in summer, I was working nearby, heard a hissing sound and thought one of my tractor tires blew out. Checked--nope. Then I saw the problem; the pressure-relief valve on the tank has popped open and was releasing LP into the air at a phenomenal rate. I quickly hooked up the garden hose and attempted to cool the tank, but to no avail. So, I called the propane dealer and they sent out a tech. By the time he arrived, he said that it would be fruitless to call a truck to pump it out and, in addition to the lost gas, incur a service charge. Soooo, he and I stood around and watched an entire tank of gas shoot up into the hot, clear summer sky. Fortunately, there are no houses, etc. nearby. A new pressure relief valve cost about $70, which, in hindsight, would have been a great investment before getting the freebee tank filled the first time! Around here (Utah), used tanks sell for about $1.00 per gal. capacity. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
