Propane tank ownership?

A number of years ago I was given a 125 gal propane tank. I took it out to my gas dealer and had him check it over and also run the serial numbers to make sure it wasn't from another dealers inventory. Came up good no one claimed it. I also have checked with all the local dealers doesn't belong to any of them. Now the dealer will not fill it unless I can provide the original bill of sale good luck finding that on a 1985 tank. Any Ideas on getting it filled or satisfying his requirement? I want to get away from propane as a heat source. Thanks In Anvance Mark Anderson

No problem. Get someone to make you up a receipt. Local office supply house sells blank ones.

That must be their own made-up policy. I own several and have papers for none. A 500 gallon, a 250, and a few 100s. They get inspected once in awhile, and that's all there is to it. But, there are several places in my area that will not fill any tank but their own. Obviously, I don't buy from those places.

No song and dance for a new tank .Talked to two dealers same story .The only thing that make me wonder is one dealer suplies propane for the other. Mabye I'll build a wood boiler with it .Mark Anderson

Find another filling station. Do you think everyone with a BBQ or fork lift has to show a bill for the tank? These two places are in some kind of agreement. Dave

That"s the way is with larger tanks, you need to prove owner ship. The tank is now an orphan. I understand they make good large air tanks.

I own 3 1000 gal and 1 500 gal.All been filled by several diffrent companies.Never heard such bs.Mark

I have several used 100 lb. tanks. A couple were given to me, bought a couple used, and got a couple more from a gas dealer. Nobody ever hassles me about papers as long as the date is good. Sounds like you need a different dealer.

That sounds bizarre. As long as the valve hasn't expired and the tank has no visible damage, it shouldn't be a problem at all getting it filled. Is this dealer feeding you a line to sell you a new tank? Dave
