Anyone know anything about a welding torch that uses gasoline instead of acetylene as the fuel. I run google search and came up with little and no prices. Heck, first hand info. is better anyway.

Hi LD,

gasoline/Oxy will have theroretical flame temperature close too Mapp/Oxy. To increase the output BTU then adding 10% alcohol should work well as increasing the orifice size for gas welding.

Although it will be close, there's no known subsitute for Acet/Oxy for gas welding.

One could use a Coleman camp stove generator or lamp for a "gas" source. I can't see paying the $700 bucks in parts.

Gasoline vapor will use about 90% less volume than acetylene to accomplish the same job for heating. Overall efficientcy will be less than Acetylene tho.

Merry Christmas

Hi L.D.

I've heard of oxy/gasoline cutting torches, but I don't remember ever hearing them described as welding torches. None of the other fuel gases except for acetylene produces enough heat for welding, but most of them allow brazing. Without specific information about the amount of heat gasoline produces, I'd be inclined to suspect that it might not qualify as a welding gas either. If welding is a requirement of your selection, be sure to find out if gasoline will do it. As several others have already mentioned, oxy/gasoline setups aren't cheap.

Merry Christmas, Stan

Looks good but doesn't say anything about welding or brazing.

I have a relative that uses several Petrogen brand gasoline torches in his rigging business, They are an amazing cutting machine, but no good for welding.

Forgot to add that he is allowed to use the gasoline/ox torch where acetelene storage and use is forbidden, and fuel is as near as the closest gas station. Says they can cut all day on a couple gallons of unleaded regular.
