Hey, I am looking for a set of flare nut wrenches, my cheap set just don't cut it anymore, I am looking at the SK crowfoot set at $90, anyone ever use them? I am doing more and more hydraulic repairs and I figured the crowfoot can get into those narrow spots a lot easier. Thought??

Thanks,

Steve

I have Matco flarenut crowsfeet and sunex and craftsman regular crowsfeet. The craftsman are 35 years old and still in perfect shape. Although craftsman doesn't or didn't make a 15/16". The sunex are 1" to 1-1/2". They are 1/4 the price of matco so is the quality. I repair class 8 trucks and trailers.

Thanks, everybody, I checked all your suggestions and I am going to call Harvey Epstein tomorrow for their selection of Bonney tools they bought when Bonney went out of business.

If you want a good set at a decent price, try Sunex. They are imports but, I have had no problems with Sunex brand tools. From what I've seen with the ones I own, I'll say that they are as good as the high priced brands.

I'll vote for the 12 point crowfoot if you can only have one set. Can use them with a ratchet or a breaker bar. I have a set of Bonney. They are not full polish like SK, but hold up very well.

I've got them in Snap-On, Mack, SK-Wayne, Proto, OTC, and also cheap Chinese. In most cases, the $19 Chinese sets work just as well and cost a 1/4 to a 1/10th of the price and sometimes cheaper. Same with the off-set angle wrenches. I paid a fortune years back when only Mack and Snap-On had them. Some of those Snap-On offsets cost me over $40 each. I have two small shops at remote properties besides my big one at home, and subsequenty went cheap and bought piles of Harbor Freight crows-feet and angle wrenchs - SAE and metric - and all have been fine. Lousy finish and they look cheap, but they get the job done just as well.

I've have them in 6 point and 12 point. The 12 point crows feet come in handy in real tight spots. But, the Chinese don't seem to making the 12 pointers yet - so you are stuck buying them in name-brand versions.

i have both crowfoot and flare nut wrenches in the tool box. the crowfoots are real handy to get in to tight spots, be sure you get a good set, the lower cost ones have a habit of spreading the jaws on a tight fitting. same with the wrenches. about the strongest jaw line wrenches are the snap on ones, they are pricey-er than heck, but they get the job done.
