Hydraulic bottle jack

I have several bottle jacks that do not work. Are they worth fixing, and if they are, where to you get rebuild kits?
Any help and comments would be appreciated.

You might also try an implement dealer, a bearing house, or a restoration supplier.

Do you have the sizes / dimensions of the seals you need?

Some of the old ones had leather cups; 30-some years ago I used to get new leather cups at a jack shop in Wausau, WI, but they probably aren't in business anymore. Do some checking online & yellow pages; you might find a place that has parts.

They were my dads hydraulic jacks, and I know that they are at least 40 years old. I have tried to put oil in them and still no luck. They will work with no load, but they will not even lift a 120 person standing on it.

If they about forty years old they won't have "O" rings. They should have leather or some combination material cup leathers in them. These are replaceable. You will need the make of the jack and the model number when you try to get the cups. The best way to fix them is to put in a repair kit but that will cost more than you can buy a new foreign one.

If they're in the 30 year old range, they might be worth fixing. The new ones today are throw aways unless they're expensive commercial ones. Jim

Sometimes just refilling with hydraulic jack oil is all they need.

are they american made? wore out? if they're not too bad of shape, and are american, then they will continue to outlast the chinese floppy things
