The 239 came out around 1954. Later versions of the "Y" block were 272, 292 and 312. I had a '55 Ford with a 272. It was a fine engine. When the mechanical tappets were properly adjusted, the engine was almost dead silent at idle. Very creepy next to today's engines that make a gawdawful racket at idle.

Try to get a Motors Truck manual from the early'60s. These manuals each covered about 10 years and were reasonably complete. It was a simpler time.

I just searched eBay for "motors truck manual" and got a lot of hits.

I'm not familiar with when Ford used that engine. Found repair manual for '49-'52 Ford trucks on Amazon.com for $54. That may seem like a high price, but you will save that amount many times over over trying to go without a manual. May also try the library. Many of the larger libraries have repair manual that they will loan out or allow you to copy pages you need. Might try flea markets, junk stores, etc. Have found several old MOTOR repair manuals that way and they were priced reasonably. If you are working on this for someone else, let them pay for the manual. They will need it again eventually.

What do you need to know, specifically?

Also, check out ebay for "MOTORS manuals" of the era, item # 320196423286, for example.

I am getting older and will probably never use them again, but I have some Motor's truck manuals that may have the information you need and I am going to start to sell some of them, cheap. J.
