Is there any way to check for excessive fuel in crankcase oil, such as from running a carburated engine too rich? Dipstick doesn't smell like gas, oil level is above full.

Oil analysis will tell you that and more. I've been using the kits from www.youroil.net. $55 gets you 3 kits and analysis. The bellows kits are real easy and not messy.
The results are emailed to you and a paper copy sent in the regular mail. I've used these maybe 8 times so far and found them to be quick and reliable.

The way to do that is take a white piece of paper, let a drop of oil off the dipstick drip onto it,if it soaks right in to the paper and sort of looks like a spider with legs pulling out from the drop it has fuel in it.If it just sets there on the paper and soaks in slowly its not got fuel in it. If you still arent sure get a drop of oil from something else and the one you are trying to check, let them set on the paper a while. The one you suspect is going to soak in quicker unless both of them have fuel in the oil.

If you have an engine mounted hydraulic pump it could be hydraulic oil.
