Here's one that I heard (I won't admit to it myself) but I heard it told in the first person, so I'll pass it along: I got a job to remove a chimney from an old house. The pay was OK, but if I salvaged the bricks, I would really make out well. I started on the roof, above the third floor. I didn't want to bust up the bricks by throwing them down three stories, so I rigged up a barrel on a rope with a pulley and tied the rope to a tree below. I filled the barrel up and went down to untie it. This is when I made my first mistake. I didn't realize that the barrel full of bricks was heavier than I was! My hand got caught in the rope and I was pulled up as the barrel came down. When my path crossed with the barrel it broke my collar bone. I proceeded upward until my hand jammed in the pulley and broke three of my fingers. At that time the barrel hit the ground. The impact broke the bottom out of the barrel. Without the bricks, I was now heavier than the barrel. I proceeded downward until I again crossed paths with the barrel. This time it broke my ankle. I sped downward until I met with the ground, breaking my right leg. That was when I lost my head. I let go of the rope! The barrel proceeded downward, hitting me on the head and giving me a concussion.
