I've been looking around for a big nice bandsaw. The local surplus outfit has a PMC Work-a-matic "roll-in" bandsaw.

They also have a big Powermatic 2013.

What is a "roll-in" bandsaw?

Also, any comments on the Powermatic - good or bad?? The Powermatic looks a little rusty, but apparently has been used very little, if at all.

I mainly need it for woodworking not metalworking.

Thanks,
Howard

Powermatic bandsaws are great. Dad had one at his tool & die shop. I think they are just as good as a Do All.

Powermatic is (was?) made right up the road from here in Mcminnville TN.

Far as I know they still are headquartered there making machines.

I would buy their machinery before anyone elses.

I have used their bandsaws. Real smooth operation.

Wish I could afford a shop full of Powermatic equipment.

I have a Grizzly GO555 which is a 14" model, it also has a 6" riser. An excellent machine. The Powermatic brand is generally a very good brand, don't know about the other.

I have a 14" Delta and a 14" Grizzley and the Grizzley is much the better of the two for Resaw They are comparable in all other functions. I looked at a Chinese made Powermatic once but did not see any benefit over the two I have. my Delta is US made [ and is old]and the Grizzley is Japan made [and fairly new]. Both my Saws have a fixed Table which is no concern to me.

A roll in has a table that rolls with the material so you do not have to slide it. Mainly for straight cuts

I think that a roll in saw is the brand name, and it has a counterweight or something that holds the work piece against the saw blade.
