Not looking for a Paul Harvey bash.
Brother-in-law bought one and is very pleased with it so far.
It has maintained his home at 72F for Oct. Nov. at a cost of 42.00 per month. Those two months were mild here in Mich.
There are many different co.'s selling the light source heaters.
Any of you folks have any experience with them????

At work we have a small control cubicle elevated 25 feet or so for loading trucks. 8 foot ceiling and about 15 sqare foot of floor space. We have a small oil filled electric heater that will freeze ya to death. It is 1500 watt. We also have a 500w work light (el cheapo) that will keep you much warmer. How does this work? Does the heat from the oil filled rise? Is the light aimed at your feet more efficient? I haven't figured it out yet.

About Paul Harvey, I am sick of all the advertisements. I wrote a letter to him explaing the reason the reason that I do not listen anymore. I used to turn on the radio just to hear him, but anymore I turn it off if he happens to come on.

Sorry to ask a question in your thread and flame Mr Harvey in the same post...

Aaron

Upon visiting the web site and looking at the pictures of the inside workings of the thing it looks like one could be made from a couple of infrared heat lamps and an old computer case for a fraction of the price listed and would more than likely do the same job just as well...

Just my opinion for what it's worth
Dan

Friend has one. Very pleased with it. But it Costs many times more that any other. I think its a rip-off. Seems to work all most as good as my 60 dollar one made in China that I got at Ace Hardware. I live alone and set it close to me..savings is that I turned down thermostat about 5 degrees on rest of the house.

Electric heater is electric heater, that said last dept of energy report said cost of electric heat and cost of natural gas heat are running neck to neck, so take your pick. Only way I think you save with electric is by area heating and everybody stay in same room. Other places have to be colder.

These heaters make some wild claims. If they draw 12 amps or 1500 watts they wont produce more heat than a 25.00 milkhouse heater. All small 120v heaters are limited to a 15 amp draw because many older houses used #14 wire.

He must only run it less than 50% of the time. If the electric costs $.10 per kilowatt hour it would cost $108.90 (12.6A @120V. 24hrs. a day for 30 days)

Lenray, you can't violate the laws of phusics... in reply to lenray, 12-16-2007 14:08:54
One WATT of electricity produces 3.41 BTU's of HEAT, no matter HOW many $$$$$$$ you pay for the heater the electricity is passing through.

ANYTHING else violates the laws of physics, and would be a form of perpetual motion.

What do YOU have to say about that???

Yup Bob, you are right. Every portable electric resistance heater is, by definition, 100% efficient. Every watt of energy consumed produces heat. The cheap ones are just as efficient as the expensive ones.

I am constantly amazed at how many people can't grasp that fact.
