Lithium(sp?) Powered tools

We went to the "city" a few days ago and one of our stops was to pick up a new Makita cordless tool set with the new lithium batteries. The place that we were going to pick it up was at Menards. Couldn't find any on the shelf so my wife went to ask somebody for assistance. She was told they, I don't know who "they" was, took away the lithium cordless tools from them. So we went looking at several other stores in town and were not able to find the set we were looking for.(impact wrench and 1/2 inch drill) Got me to thinking, maybe I should try the Milwaukee brand. I think one of the places had a set like that, but at the time I wasn't looking for Milwaukee. My question, are the lithium batteries living up to there expectations, longer life, lighter, going longer between charges? And I have always liked Makita, but I would be willing to try the Milwaukee brand if they are holding up okay. Anybody out there have experience, good or bad, with the Milwaukee cordless tools?

I have a bunch of 18V Milwaukee stuff and I've been very pleased with it. My 18v drill is going on five years old and I've used it to drill countless holes through 1/4-3/8" plate using a 2 3/8" holesaw with no problems. Milwaukee uses carbide tipped chuck jaws and I've never seen any other chuck, keyless or keyed that will hold as well as they will. Last I knew Milwaukee claimed to build a higher percentage of their tools in the US than any other power tool company which I admire.

Are you sure they were lithium batteries? A lithium cell has a 3volt potential and to my knowledge are not rechargeble.I would bet they were Ni-Mi batteries. Better battery then the old nickel cadmium , even if the have a shorter life span.

I recently saw a TV ad for Ryobi Lithium/ion battery powered tools to be sold at Home Depot. When I happened to stop by the store there was a display of lime green/grey drills on a table with various fastners for self demonstration.

The lithium tools, as far as the Milwaukee brand, meet and most times exceed expectations. I have used the V28 drill and sawzall. They are awesome. I also work for Milwaukee as a maintenance technician in the Jackson, MS plant. No other tools can stand up to ours. Our V28 Lithium Ion tools have a five year warranty on the batteries. Check them out.

I personally dont have them but my uncle bought the makita set the cheaper one and he didnt like them. I was impressed how small they were but they were not very powerful. He sold them and bought the milwakee set i dont know how he likes them.

I have been thining about getting a set of them also. Menards here had them for $258 on sale-regular $269. Home Depot had then for $269 also. I wasn't sure about them as they are lighter made than the regular ones. I think they call these thier compact version. Didn't Milwakee get bought out lately or buy somebody else out?
