Hi Mike, As I understand it, the Darwin Awards apply to situations where an adult person (or people) are rendered incapable of reproduction as the result of engaging in an activity that they knew, or had reason to know, was capable of producing said result. Therefore, in my opinion, the Darwin Award would not apply to the couple in the incident you related. Real accidents happen, too. I spent some time a few weeks ago reading all the Darwin Award descriptions on that website. Several not very surprising elements became obvious: Alcohol was a major contributing factor in a very high percentage of cases, and a large number of people achieved the award engaging in activities that were much more risky than they suspected. I found this second element quite disturbing because I know that at least every week---if not quite every day---I engage in one activity or another that I judge to contain an acceptable level of risk. Occasionally I discover that the activity is much more dangerous than I estimated, and nothing more than random chance, or luck, of the grace of God, has kept me from being eligible for my own Darwin Award. I'm sure I'm not that different from most people in not wanting to suffer the indignity of dying in an accident AND being remembered as a fool for it. All the best, Stan
