Howdy all,

I was digging around in dads barn and found this tank. He kiddingly told me to put it on ebay but I figgered one of you might know what it is

Ideas? Theories?

theh acetylene tank may be useable after testing, but that regulator is not legal ot use anymore. They are considered a safety hazard.

It's an excellent, portable heat source for loosening rusted, stuck nuts on old tractors. Or anything else.

And sure beats the heck out of a Bernzomatic (propane)torch for sweating plumbing fittings.

Probably also be handy in the kitchen for making Creme Brule . . .

It's a older prestolite air acetylene rig on a M tank....quite portable..... go back and see if there's more tips. Then find a "B" tank,you'll never be sorry.

I can't add any more info on the tank than what has been said already. But how about some more pictures of your shop????? ? Is that a good collection of clamps in the corner next to the door?

B "plumbers" tank. I have one of those along with a 60lb oxygen tank for my ox/act setup. Has come in mighty handy over last 30 year. Just exchanged both tanks afew months back. BTW most gas suppliers don't guestion rights or ownership to the B tank so take it to your local supplier and about 10 bucks will give you a very hand tool.

That's a presto-lite set up. If the cylinder isn't damaged, I bet it could still be used. Most of the time they exchange the cylinders. The date of the cylinder should be stamped on it. I've used oxygen cylinders from the 20's that are just the same as the new ones. Acetylene is probably the same except they have to measure how much acetone is in it before filling with acetylene. Presto-lites are the torch of choice for plumbers. Dave

The thing with ebay is one time something will bring way more than you could ever dream of and the next time not a bid on something you think would go good. Put it on and try it ! You will either be out a few bucks for fees or will be in the money.

Hi Scott,

Looks like a nifty setup, but I predict you'll have trouble getting that bottle refilled. If the fitting on the regulator is a standard acetylene fitting, then you'd be able to use it with a standard, up to date bottle, but justifying doing so is a different matter. Acetylene is by far the most dangerous of the common fuel gases, and offers little temperature advantage over MAPP gas (at least in an oxy/fuel application---it's possible that its advantage is greater when used with air.)

Nice table saw surface, though.

It is a propane torch, used for sweating copper pipe. Do know the value but it should sell on e-bay.

Thing of it is Bob that you always seem to jump on people for stupid things. I've seen you do it time and time again and it gets awful tireing. You may have been joking around with him this time but most times you're bi*ching about somthing stupid that they forgot, didn't notice, or isn't spelled right.

Yea I noticed the label (grin)

I opened the valve and it's empty. Dad figgers it's worth a buck at the recyclers. I'm pushing him in the direction of Ebay because he's got a LOT of old stuff.

Just to settle an argument, what's it worth? he wants to toss ot in the truck and haul it to the landfill.

You can't throw it in the dump! That's a top of the line torch set up. If you don't want it, someone will. It was probably used till it ran out and all it needs is a refill. I've used identical cylinders to that one on a small portable cutting torch. Take it to a good welding supply and they can tell you. If the cylinder is no good, they will dispose of it properly. Air/acetylene produces a very hot pin point flame that has advantages over other fuels and heats faster. What you have, I would consider an excellent find. Why not keep it and use it? You could put a new regulator on it if you needed to. Price out a new one. That's a real diamond in the rough. Dave

You can pretty much forget E-bay because unless you ship it and don't say whats in it you can't ship that. Has to be shipped motor frieght only. As far as worth keep it and use it. Works well for radiator repair and other small stuff like that, or heating nuts and bolts that your need to to get loose. Plus with out the paper work on that tank it would be hard to sell and or fill. And the scrap man will not want it either. Have you ever tried to sell gas tanks to a scrapper?? They don't take them and if they do they don't give much

It's a plumber's air/accetylene torch, commonly used for soldering copper pipe.

Good luck shipping that tank, if you sell it on fleabay!
