Anyone know the metric equivalent of threads on an automotive axle given to me? They are LEFT hand and I measure them at 15 T.P.I. I 've had no success anywhere finding 1" diam nuts to go on. I've alreadt welded the axle to a heavy wagon under construction. Thanks

Thanks all. The donor and I are not in touch. However. Fastenal had 2 remaining nuts that fit! They are 1" diam. hex nuts with left hand threads at 14 t.p.i.

Can the doner tell you where the axle was used?

Your automotive axle isn't off of a truck is it. If the diameter of the wheel studs are an inch you have a truck axle and most truck shops or Napa should have the nuts. What size tire is on them. chris

1 inch is equal to 25.4 mm so the thread is very likely a 25 mm.

The pitch of 15 threads per inch equates to approximately 1.72 threads per mm.

Since there isn't a 1.72 metric pitch, the thread that is close to that is 1.75mm pitch.

That would mean the thread is a non-standard 25 x 1.75 metric. The standard threads for metric threads bolts are 1.0 and 1.5 threads per mm.

Napa should have them, Just have the counter person get into their Balkamp book and look them up. The only ones they don't carry are propietary which means you'd have to go the axle manufacturer.
