Cleaning cleaning solvent

The 30 or so gallons of solvent (varsol) in my parts washer is getting pretty black. If I let it sit for a few days all the suspended dirt settles out but the liquid is still goldy-black. Anyone know how to get it cleaner (filter media of some sort?)

Thanks

How about an old Frantz oil cleaner? That's the toilet paper type. It keeps oil clean as a whistle. It should clean the solvent as well. Just don't run the heavy crud thru it or it will plug up too fast. Run the cleaned solvent into a second container, then clean out the tank and pour back the cleaned solvent. Be sure to use "double roll", 2 ply paper as the old rolls were 4.5x4.5" and I think 450 sheets. Today's toilet paper is about half that amount. Here's a tip for the best deal on paper: buy 2 ply and look for a price of 1 per square foot. The sq/ft is always stated on the package. So 350 sq/ft would be $3.50. Surprise, surprise! You have been paying a lot more, haven't you?

I take it you have experience with Frantz or other brand toilet paper oil filter? I put one on a '65 International Travelall 304v8 at 900 miles and did not change the oil. When it got wrecked at 90,000, the oil was still nice and clean. Oil was only 35 back then, now it's getting past $1.50. Guess I should install a cleaner again.

I strain mine thru a doubled up section of an old sheet laid in a bucket when I dump out my cleaner.( Hardly ever.)Then add new clean solvent. I doesn't have to look crystal clear to work well.
