This past week, I have been working beside the highway building a new electric line because the State is putting in four-lane. The old line is in the new right of way. Anyway, laying beside the highway is a 1/2 drive Craftsman ratchet and a 3/4 drive S&K breaker bar. Both are broken. I took the craftsman into Sears today and they gave me a new one without any hassle. I hope the S&K will be the same. By the way, I didn't make a special trip to Sears, as we were at the mall doing Christmas shopping.

It sort of makes up for putting up with all the crazy drivers on the highway. You don't realize how nerve racking it is for the highway dept. until you have been there. We put out warning signs and cones and wear safety vests, but it doesn't help much. Sometimes we have to set up on the shoulder of the road to change out a pole and those cars and trucks are passing us at 55 or 60 mph just 2 feet from us. You have to be on your guard at all times.

Sorry didn't mean for this to turn into a vent.

I've never found any thing of value alongsdide the Roads, so much fir that. My observation is -The Highways here in Az. are very unsafe in any situation but most Highway Construction Sites have Posted" Fines double when workers present" and a DPS Trooper or maybe two are in observance of Traffic and will stop you for Infractions of posted speeds with no give or take 5MPH allowed. Fines double means just that. Speeding in a Const Zone may cost you up to $500.00 and Jail time and points against your license at the least. One thing Az.does right in my opinion.

Lots of Craftsman mechanics tools are OK to good (sockets and wrenches are fine) but there ratches are junk.

Free is free though. I suspect you'll be returning that one soon, and another and another .....

Cincinnati just had a Duke Energy worker installing a gas line in somebody's front yard hit and killed by a motorist. No real explanation yet. No where is safe from some people.

Had the door knob go bad on the shop door. Went to buy new one and noticed it said lifetime garentee on package of new one. Went back home to see if mine was same brand (Weiser) and it was. Called company and he said tell him what model and he will send new one. I said where is model # stamped and he said on package. This is maybe 15 years old I don't have package. He said e-mail me picture so he can send me same or very similar model. Real impressed with there cus. service.

Had a grey hair grandma type hit my notebook in my right hip pocket with her mirror at probably 35 mph. No way she was gonna cross that centerline. Got all sorts of lights on my Troop car and I park over enough so that I can have a little working room and I still almost get hit 3-4 times a week. I don't worry about getting shot anymore. Some solid citizen on a cell phone is going to get me!

Yep been there done that back when I drove dump trucks and worked on hwy projects. Funny how people think a loaded dump truck can stop on a dime till they get in the way that is. Yep I also got to play flag man when ever they needed one and my truck was waiting for a load. Some times I think they should have some one standing there with a shot gun so maybe people would slow down

Amen on the drivers - I worked on the road for over 33 years. We used to say that 99 out of 100 drivers were safe. One day I was waiting for a lull to jump out and mark a patch, and I thought I'd see how long it took for 100 cars to go by. Two minutes and twenty seconds, and on a rural road about two in the afternoon. Kinda spooky, because 50 out of those 100 today are on the cell phone.

Hi PJH,

I read somewhere recently that cell phone use is now the number one contributing factor in traffic accidents. Watching the way people drive makes it obvious that most people have no idea what a dangerous activity it is. It's virtually impossible to be fully engaged in driving, and nothing else, 100% of the time you're driving, but that has to be what you try for or it will get you eventually. You'll cause, or be involved in an accident just about as surely as casinos will continue to win money, because in either case, you can't beat the odds forever.

Found a Sears 3/8" rachet on the road a few years ago. After while it quit ratcheting. Took it to Sears where a sales person who spoke hardly any English waved at a selection of rachets, and indicated to take my pick.

Found a broken SK 1/2" breaker bar on my farm where a renter had thrown it during a repair session. Had my father-in-law take it in to a dealer he frequented. Deale said "Show me the receipt." In short, no receipt, no replacement.

I've been a professional mechanic since the early 70's..I've never been told to " show a receipt" for a tool warranty..That's crap..Nobody keeps receipts year to year..Contact a tool distributor in a larger city. We in Cleveland have Samsel in the "flats". I've gone there for S-K and Proto warranty ratchet parts with no question..Even for my 1" drive torque wrench ratchet...

I forgot to mention that *most* of the people I've seen here in the SouthEast - WV, Va, NC, SC, Ga, etc "un-as*" the lane near any construction work, blue lights, or any vehicle on the side of the road.

If the Missouri HP will enforce the law like IL for 30days they will slow down and move over. (old asphalt paver) SK still warrants their stuff but I have a hard time finding a dealer.

I wish we had signs that read " SLOW DOWN AS*HOLE" maybe that would get their attention.

Your right about finding an S&K dealer. Used to be every where, now I am having trouble finding one.
