6.5 hp clone timing issue

The 6.5 hp motor I bought from Princess Auto acts as though it has flipped its timing belt a couple of notches. It has lots of spark, but fires at inappropriate times, occasionally blasting flame out the muffler. It won't run, though it often fires early in the power stroke.

Do these motors have anything like a timing belt? It's a clone of the Honda 6.5.

This afternoon it started right up, then starved out and quit before I could get the choke off. Figured it was out of gas, but I couldn't get it to go again.

Thanks,

Rod

I think you said it all with "honda clone". We tried some on our fleet of spray trucks and found that the hondas outlast them by several years, chinese junk! I know this does not help with your problem, but stick to the names, a honda small motor, import or not, is hard to beat.

you may wany to check the flywheel....they are plastic on some models and have been known to do some pretty weird things, I do bileve they have aluminum replacements for a fee...if the flywheel is cracked, or the keyway is wallowed out , you will get symptoms similar to what you described. Good luck , Shawn

Should be a gear if it is ohv & pushrods, unless it has an ohc, then it'll have a chain. Did it run like that out of the box, or did something happen?

Are you trying to use it for something important? If so, wouldn't it have been cheaper in the long run to buy a real one instead of a chi-com counterfeit?

Sounds like my old mower after mowing rocks. The flywheel key turns to mush. New key and lookout rocks

The key is aluminium so you can cut rocks and not break the crank. You know when it's sheared, the recoil starter tries to haul you back inside of it's self when it fires half way up the stroke.
