I've never heard of or used Radnor brand unless it's was produced under another name before 1995?
Trouble with finding a specific brand of electrode is finding a local supplier for the electrode. So many welding suppliers now only watch there net dollar amount and to heck with the best brand. Even Tweeco welding products is now getting hard to find or Huntsmen welding hoods, both products the finest in there class.
Lincoln 5p, 6010, is got to be the finest all around electrode choice that's ever been made. Using DCEP, 5p can make the finest open root pipe weldments that there are as well put on a excellant cover pass. Using DCEN, 5p will weld SM to certified codes. 5p will also run well on AC altho not the perferred choice. So if I had to choose just one electrode to have in my shop, Lincoln 5p 6010 would be it.
Lincoln also makes the finest Mig & Tig electrodes ,E70s. E70s runs excellant with 100%Ar, 75Ar25Co2, 100%Co2, or tri-mix gas. Works excellant with DCEP or DCEN
There's not a thing wrong with any 6013 electrode. When I modified my last adjustable 2" square ball mount, I used 6013 AC to make the 2" solid steel splice as that's what I had on hand. 6013 is a poor choice for welding SM as it has a very heavy flux cover on the weld bead and this hinders welding lite gauge SM as you can't not wait on the flux to move to the molten puddle edge before burning a hole in the base metal. The last 6013 I bought was Hobart and was a good 6013 electrode.
I have never found a finer 7018 electrode than Chemtron, a Linde product or Aire Linde as there name is now and I think Liquid Aire in the past. When this electrode is stored in a rod oven @250�, it will lay down the smoothest weld bead there is with the least amount of applied effort. Lincoln also makes a good 7018 but I found it needs more maniplation from the user than Chemtron. The last Hobart 7018 I used, about 1990, I have to admit it was a fine 7018 rod. 7014 and 7024 are both fine electrodes for speed welding. 7014 is just like 6013 when it comes too SM welding. 7024 is used for high production welding, meaning fast easy weld metal deposits, and has structual strength comparred to 7018, 70000psi tensil strength. 7018 penetrates deeper than 7024 and in fact 7024 would appear to lay on the surface but in reality it has adequate penetration for it's electrode class. Alot of backhoe equipment is welded with 7024 but has position restrictions of flat and horizontal weldments.
On certified jobs, then one has to follow the WPS (Welding Procedure Specification). It's common to see a WPS for 6010 for the root weld and 7018 for the cover pass. E70s is another popular WPS for certified Mig or Tig welding. T_Bone
