Does anyone have any experience with the sets sold by Northern Tool? I only need them for occasional use. Have priced some of the standard brands and they are rather pricey, I have even looked at Ebay.

I have been buying Snap-On ones on Ebay, just know the origional price. A Few weeks ago, I needed 2 15mm wrenches to do a job, only had one Snap-On Combination so I had to use a cheap 15mm. Ended up rounding off the nut so I decided to get another Snap-on set but instead of buying another combination or an open end set, I bought a Snap-On angle head set on Ebay so I would not only have another set ( to use when you need 2 wrenches the same size) but gain the angles for versalitility.

Had a cheap set that would work in a pinch but rounded off corners on a tight hydraulic line.Found a good set of Cornwell wrenches at a pawn shop and threw the cheapies in the scrap bin and haven't rounded another corner since.

They are fine and are a great bargain. Year's ago, the only place I could buy these wrenches were from Snap-On and Mac. I have complete sets of both - 3/8" up to 2" and they cost a fortune. Some were $40 for each wrench. I need both brands since Snap-On and Mac had slightly different angles. You really need them sometimes - especially for certain hydraulic lines in tight places.

When I first saw the Chinese Harbor Freight versions - I was in shock at the cheap price. Since then, I've bougt six sets of them - in SAE and metric. Keep a set in my truck tool box, a couple sets at some remote properties I own, etc. They work every bit as well as the high price stuff - just tend to be somewhat crude and don't look as shiny. And, I'm tough on tools - I'm pulling wrenches every night on diesels and tractors.

Hey, I hope the Chinese copy every specialty wrench OTC, Snap-On, and Mac does - I'll buy them all.

I have the snap on set for my job, but one point I remember when buying mine was the snap on has a 30? degree end and a 60 degree? end. At the that time the Mac and other brands had the 15 dgree end and 60, with 15 being the same as a standard open or combo wrench. All are good brands but by my buying the snap on I gained one more angle of wrench head. I'm guessing at the angles but I'm sure you get my drift. Check the angle of the heads. Theres no sense buying a wrench with a head angle of the ones you already have.

I took a chance and bought a set for the twice a year I actually need such a thing. Haven't had to use 'em yet, but they look like a decent wrench for the price.

Ask yourself how much will it cost me to replace or fix whatever nut, bolt, or fitting that I damage by using cheap tools on? Those better made sets might not seem too expensive now.
You can only do so much with inexpensive Chinese made tools.

Buy a good set and they will last a lifetime. Sears is having a lot of sales for the holidays.
