A lot of my tools are "used" enough to where the rubber coating on the handles is long gone. I'd like to recoat them, would like any recommendations on what products some of you may have used, how well it holds up, etc. Give me the good, as well as the bad so I know what to stay away from.

Check with a industrial tool supplier like Grainger and others and they have some vinyl or insulated replacement grips you heat in hot water or with a heat gun and slip on. They make some for the Kline linesman pliers. A lot of that cheap tool dip is just that not worth buying and solvents will disolve it making it soft and fall off first time anything gets on it.

I use Heat Shrink tubing used for insulating electrical connections..The kind with the mastic inside the tube is best..Don't hurt to use several layers and pinch the plier handle ends to conceal the ends..

I've put a little CO2,from my TIG welder, in a can of tool dip after opening, it seems to keep a little longer.

Home Depot sells the stuff. It is formulated and labeled for tools. I use it for insulating electrical connections. Once the lid is popped, its shelf life deteriorates fast even with the substitute plastic lid which they provide.

Best way to preserve the shelf life of the plastidip Indefinitley upon opening is to put aluminum foil over can opening, put plastic lid on and turn can "Upside down"

U Coat it or U dip it are probably the most common plastic dips. However, nothing I have found equals the original rubber/vinyl grips on tools. The dip it products go on cold and you have to use several coats for thickness to be worthwhile. I have also experimented with heatshrink tubing. The heatshrink tubing with the glue inside works great but, it's still not as good as original. Whatever you use, make sure the tool handles are super clean before coating them. Good luck,

Hi , I never bought any dip, but I could've sworn I saw it in Eastwood catalog once . Go to their website & ask them . What I have used, as a former electrician (before disability hit)was shrink tubing . I've even used 2 pieces on each handle to be sure I was protected . I've even used it on the shafts of screw drivers that I used near hot wiring .It always worked for me & has stayed for all the years I've had the tools .HTH ! God bles, Ken

There is stuff made just for that that comes in different colours but I can't remember the name of it. Dave
