My winter project is to get my two wheel drive (non-dually)Chevy 3500 ready for trailering next summer. It is in very good condition for a twenty year old Wisconsin truck. It is a work truck but I would like to dress it up a little with some chrome wheels. Right now it has the factory 16" wheels and "dinner plate" wheel covers. I have not looked around AT ALL yet, but are there many wheels available either factory or original that would be suitable for a 3500? I suppose I'd go with an 8 or 10x16" wheel; whatever will clear the front fenders. I haven't even removed a wheel cover yet but assume it's an 8 bolt pattern. I am hoping to find something used. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Glenn F.

I'd never make it as an editor! After reading my post a dozen times I just now notice....I meant to say "either factory or after market".

The 3500 Chevy Express vans come with a nice spoked steel wheel. You can get them with chrome center caps.I just bought a pair for snowtires.$35 a piece. Not bad looking for stock .

If you go with aftermarket make sure they fit the hub(center hole). That way the studs don't take the abuse. My cousin had a truck like yours with aluminum rims. He delivered a 4320 JD a couple hundred miles away and luckily on his way home empty the drivers rear passed him going down the highway. Guess who he called to replace the studs on the white line of a busy 2 lane highway after dark, aleast an officer watched traffic as I pulled the axle and hub. chris

Big problem with those fancy wheels are most are load rated about half of what steel wheres are and can/will cause you problems if you really want to haul much. BTDT and sold the fancy wheels and went back to stock because of that problem

Yup. They would have to be rated for a one ton truck. The only reason I bought this truck is for trailering and I wanted the extra beef of a one ton.

If you go to a bigger width rim, does that mean you're going to install taller tires? Taller tires on a stock gearset will cause bad gas mileage and a severe reduction of torque when pulling a trailer, but when empty, it could do better on gas.

They do make load rated aluminum wheels.
