Need 5/8 allen wrench

I'm scrapping a chevy TBI aluminum intake. I need to remove the allen type plugs on it first. One big one is 5/8". I've tried Menards, Sears and auto parts stores with no luck.

Sometimes one of your chisels will fit if its a hex shank.Did that for the rare 7/16s allen screw.

Hex head bolt.Use the head side double nut the threaded side --socket and ratchet to get out. Might need to hit the bolt head on a belt sander.

Break it through the plugs, then they will almost fall out.

I have , on occasion, used a hex shaped punch and a Crescent wrench when in a pinch.

How about painting the plug with aluminum paint. LOL

It's shame you are not a neighbor. I have a bucket with at least 100 large allen wrenches. The biggest being well over an inch. I actually use them once or twice a year.

Check your local hardware store for a coupling nut thats 5/8", might be threaded 7/16". Stuff it into a 5/8" socket or box end.

What I have done in the past is take a 5/8 bolt and then take a nut and weld it on the bolt. Then you can drop the heard of the bolt in the allen and take a socket and take it out that way. Simple cheap and using a socket you can a good handle to work with

Yep that'll work. I bet I've got a tool box full of home made tools. Most of the time they work just as good as store bought, somtimes better.

I'll BET it'll take scrapping SEVERAL aluminum manifolds to pay for a 5/8" Allen wrench, at least a QUALITY one!

Can you find a bolt that will fit in there? Head first, then weld a cross piece on out of any scrap handy.

You would be better off getting an allen head socket. I know Sears sells them cause I Got a 9/16 and 5/8. Snap-on has them too. I don't think I ever saw a 5/8 allen head wrench before.

If you have an iron dealer close go and see if he has any 5/8 hex shaft and make your own or just put it in a 6pt 5/8 socket.
