OT FORD F 900 FUEL FILTERS

We have a 1977 F 900 --GAS--477 eng. farm dump truck.
It has been running very well but today acted like it was out of gas--stops start back up run awhile and shut down again.
It has an external fuel pump and an inline filter before the pump and a large filter under the hood.
The question is there a filter in the tank????
There is a 6-7 inch. dia cap on top of the tank held down with a ring of bolts. Was there a fuel pump in these tanks when new or were they always an external fuel pump.
There is another ring of boltls for the fuel sender.
Just wondering if I need to look inside the tank also for a blockage.

I ran into an older Louisville gas dump that ran intermittantly some years ago..Found that the engine oil pressure switch also fed electricity to the tank fuel pump, was open and no power was going to the pump..

Nope no filter in the tank. The round thing with bolts on the top is where the sending unit is.(fuel gauge) Do you have a spare coil around? Sounds like your secondary is out in the coil. Primary starts the truck, heats up and goes over to the secondary and its not there.

Pig-pen The sending unit is a small ring of bolts on the tank--for the gas gage./ This other thing is beside it but about 4-5 times bigger in dia. and is held down by bolts also.
I don't understand what you mean about the COIL.

Could you explain a little more---thanks
