McCulloch Chainsaw?

I have a McCulloch Timberbear w/20" bar. I can easilly start it and it will idle and run great. when I shut it off I can not get it started back and have to walk a way from for a while and it starts fine. Also would any one have shop or service manual for this saw?

Hey Jeramy
It sounds to me that you may have a piston ring that gets stuck to the piston when hot.
Exhaust screen clogged up may me another place to look at. I assume you have good spark, and fuel. Guido.

Had problem like that with my Mac 3200. I found a very small crack in the fuel line that runs from the tank to the carb. Replaced all line with new and have had no problem since.

Was just using my 650 yesterday. Had to restart when it was hot. started with no trouble if you just set the high idle on the throtle trigger. If you have other troubles read the rest of thread and try them. Whole truck load of huge tree trunks. Two of them I used a Mac 1000 6.1hp with a 42 inch bar. Had about two inches left over on the bulge at the bottom of the log.! Jeffcat

Here is what I would do: (PM 610)

1. Check the fire on the plug and maybe just put in a new plug. If no fire then check for on-off switch problem or point gap setting.

2. Check the compression should be over 150 lb.

3. Look in the muffler port for any heavy scoring of the piston. Make sure the spark arrester is not plugged.

4. Check the crankcase for a leakdown test (have saw shop do this if you don't have a tester. they must have no leaks good seals and a good crankcase gasket.

5. Check the carburator and fuel system for problems and leaks on it's mounting gaskets.

When you're trying to restart it warm are you using the choke? Maybe it's flooded? Ever take out the spark plug when it won't restart and see if it's wet.. or dry? If it's dry when it won't restart you could experiment by shutting it off previously by pulling the choke-- that would put fuel in the cylinder for the next restart.
