O.T. Doge pickup

Well I got the pickup to charge now, I replaced the resistor and the regulator, Probloem now is that I think it is charging too much, I took the extra battery out alomg with the amp and sub woofer for the stereo, now it cahrges at 16 volts min. and over 18 volts max most of the time and when it charges at over 18 volts the gauges start to dance around. What would cause this to happen now? Thanks for the help from before aand the new help, Robert

I'll 2nd the ground problem. Mine has a short ground wire from the neg post on the battery to the grill/body of the truck. It has broken on 2 different occasions and my gauges, AC, etc go bonkers. Hope this helps.....

I dont think it is the ground, cause it is bolted to the firewall with two bolts, they tighten up snug not stripped maybe I should run a ground wire from one of the bolts to the engine block and see what happens? I really do not know other than I am really getting frustrated with it now.

Overcharging ?? Voltage regulator isn't cutting out when charging....
