OT Wiring Question

While digging a trench with a shovel on my property I hit a direct bury wire and broke the insulation. The former owner had it buried about 6" deep with no conduit. I didn't break the wire but did break the insulation. How can I repair this? Thanks Bob

Thanks for suggestions everybody. I looked at Lowes tonight and bought some liquid insulation that is to work above or below ground and is made by 3M. Thanks Bob

Contact your favorite local telephone line repairman. Tell him your problem. He will probably give you a repair kit. Simply a plastic two piece thingy you place around the wire and fill with a epoxy material that encapsulates the wire.

Liquid electrical tape - not sure if that meets code requirements since I am not a code electrician but I have used some on a similar incident several years ago and still going.

more info needed for a good answer but here goes. what type wire? single conductor direct bury type uses a special splice/repair kit as i remember 3M brand used a tube and a special epoxy ask at an electrical supply house. some type UF direct bury wire is used this resembles romex but has a special very tough outer jacket usually only in size 10 or 12 gauge probably also a special kit available. some unknowing homeowners have buried type NM romex wire definately a no no and very dangerous. what ever you do DISCONECT line from power source before doing any work around this line until properly repaired suggest contacting an electrical contractor familiar with underground lines as a matter of safety

There is a product that is used for thread and plug gages that is mixed up and used as a dip. The product drys to a hard rubber, then cut it with a knife when you want to reuse the gage. I dont know what it is called, havent seen it in years.
