The price of oil is driving everything up, from property leases to shipping to electricity. We'd all better get used to it because it's only going to get worse.

We priced a mechanical seal for the shaft on a feedwater pump. $487+ for two ceramic rings, a rubber doodad and a spring...

We use a lot of pumps for coolant and lube on our production machinery. We have our own pump shop. We seldom rebuild pumps anymore. The manufacturers have priced rebuild kits so high that it is cheaper to buy new. On some small models the kit is actually more expensive than a new pump. Same thing with hydraulic cylinders.

Email me, I think those things are less than 20.00 around here, I do a lot of pump repairs and use them from occasionally on the old jet pumps

I priced a CR seal for a PS pump a few days ago, jusy a little seal, .625" X 1.25", or thereabouts... almost $13.00. That is for a pretty generic seal.

I had the Edelman number from a PS kit book, and had the jobber check that number... some $3.00, ordered in a a stock order. Since I use those from time to time, I had them order 4. They are VERY nice seals, with a rubber sealing area on the OUSTSIDE to seal to the bore, just like OEM.

APPARENTLY, SKF/CR is getting a bit greedy!
