OT-JEEP WRANGLER WARRENTY

We bought a used Jeep last month. 2004 Wrangler with 28,000 miles. We are very happy with the Jeep. Got a letter from Chrysler stating that as the second owners we can transfer the Powertrain warrenty to us for only $150. Powertrain is covered up to 70,000 miles and has a $100 decuctable. Just wondering if this is a wise use of $150? We don't off rode it or use it hard. My wife drives it to work and on her trips around town. Probably won't use the 4=wheel option until we get snow this winter. What do you guys think?

Warranty is as good as the lying dealer. Just saw a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van with 13,000 miles lose an engine and the dealer said it's the owner's fault for "smashing the oil pan and breaking the oil pickup." I pulled the pan, (not smashed) and the oil pickup is fine. The number five bearing spun, but of course the warranty is now violated.

As an auto parts supplier for a period of time I would strongly suggest that you invest $150.00 and get the warranty. I had more than one engineer working on Chrysler programs tell me that "they only have to make it through the warranty".

I had to replace a water pump in a Dodge Intrepid at 47K miles. Cost about $400.00. Last car before that one I had to put a water pump on was a 1968 Olds Cutlass. That cost me $20.00 for the part and it took about 1.5 hours to do.

My wife has a Grand Cherokee that we bought new in "98. It"s now got only 44,000 miles on it (really) but I still bought the extended warranty when we got it. The only real problem we ever had was the sunroof cable broke and it cost me $450.00 to fix that (not covered by extended warranty).

I agree. We have a 2004 Chrysler product, which we have covered with that sort of a guarantee from Chrysler. We still frequently get a very official looking letter from some business (not Chrysler, though they imply that they are) trying to get us to buy another guarantee.

My 2001 Jeep Cherokee had to be short-blocked at 47,000 miles. First time I ever had an extended-warranty pay off.

Oh, did I forget to mention about the transmission in the wife's vehicle? It was trashed at 63,000. It was not off road driving at all.

If you have just one need for repair, how much do you think its going to cost? 150 bucks is cheap! With most labor rates in shops being more than 55 an hour, it doesn't take long to realize how cheap that transfer is. Parts are more than that if needed. Good idea in my mind.

$55 an hour? I wish. Northern Ca was $95/hour a couple of years ago....probably over $100 by now.

Retired friend,long time shop owner,always had pretty much lowest rates around,often half the fancy intown ones.He always said with a smile.."At half price I keep busy but can choose the jobs I want,them full price fellers GOTTA do everything fer everybody.

I went to an independent shop in the mid 90s; there was a separate charge of $1.50 for shop rags for diagnostic service.
