That looks like the old lathe I have, made by F.E. Reed Co. Worcester Ma.
It is about a hundred years old. Made for a shop that had a line shaft running the length of the shop. The motor that powers it is about 40-50 yrs old Looks to be about three horse power.

Well I got mine for a steal.
You see I live in the furniture capital of the world (Gardner Ma.) and I found out that an older gentleman who was retired from one of the local furniture factories. He worked as a patern maker and was selling two lathes so he and his wife could move to Florida. He continued turning at home for some extra money after retiring. Long story short, he was so thrilled that a youngster like myself was so interested in wanting to learn about turning he sold me the old lathe and another lathe just like the one I had in woodshop in Jr high. Nice old (50's) Walker Turner' shop lathe. Plus all his turning tools, about twenty knives and all his calipers, and cabinet to store them in,(nothing like tools that are already trained) all that for 200.00 bucks.By the way this gentleman also spun aluminum on the Walker Turner.
You could probably get anywhere from $200.00-500.00 for yours or even more if you find someone that likes old lathes.
personally I'd keep it. Only bad thing about them is that they have babbit bearings in the spindle, keep it well lubed.

You have to take these old lathes apart to move them.Or bolt them to some skids.I have an old lathe that had flat belts and overhead shaft. Before I moved my dad and I had it set and it did very good work.Would be a shame to scrap a good lathe. These tools were made when USA meant quality.

40 years old is not old for a lathe. I wish I had one of the lathes I used in machine shop class 45 years ago. Offer it for sale. If it is really old offer it to a tractor club who may want to set up an antique machine shop.
