Backpack leaf blower: intermittent operation

My backpack leaf blower (Poulan Pro, 2 cycle) is acting real strange all of a sudden. It runs for several minutes, and then just dies. Start it back up after a few minutes, and does the same thing . . . runs for awhile, then just dies. Seems like it's running out of gas, but if there's blockage somewhere in the carb, why does it run at all? The gas pickup filter inside the tank looks clean.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check your primer bulb for cracks and like someone earlier mentioned check fuel lines going into tank, Ihad same problem with my poulan chainsaw. Changed bulb and lines, ran like a champ.

Look your fuel lines over real carfully. Or better yet just replace them. I had a Poulan chain saw do the same thing last year. The lines has gotten hard and cracked where they went thru the tank. Would suck just enough gas to start and run but under load would suck air and die. Start up and do it again. New lines and she runs like new.

Hi - Take the carb off the unit, remove the (big) screw from the intake side of the carb. Using carb cleaner, spray the inside area of the carb. You may notice a small (1/4") cupped screen inside the carb. This is clogged up and causing your problem. Assemble and you should be good to go.

Thanks for your help!

I removed the big single screw on top of the carb, which lets you take the postage stamp sized metal plate off of the top, but all that was under there was a gasket and a couple of shallow passageways. I didn't see a screen, or much of anything, in there. The only other screws I see are underneath on the bottom of the carb where the priming bulb attaches. Should I remove that?

There are two tubes that lead from the carb down to the gas tank. Besides the gas intake tube which has a filter on its end, there's a second, smaller tube, which has a small screen on it's end. I could blow thru it, so it's not clogged.

I'm open to suggestions . . . .

Does it have a vented gas cap? Maybe that's clogged?

does it have a spark arrestor on the muffler? if so, take it OFF.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I got it to work by cleaning the 1/4 diameter internal carb screen. Also discovered the tiny tubing clamp that seals the plastic line going down into the tank (not the supply . . the other one) was off the cap it passes thru. So perhaps that was leaking air. I learned alot. Thanks again!
