THANK YOU for everyone who replied. I went ahead and bought a 99 Polaris 250 2wd. Ended up giving 1620.00 for it 30 miles from home. Could have done better IF I wanted to drive a few hundred miles, but gas isn't cheap, and my time is worth at least something. The one I ended up with does have brand new brakes and chain and sprockets. NO cracks anywhere in the plastic. The seller is a excavation contractor, and he is the one who put the new parts on it. To make a long story short, reading between the lines, I am guessing this one was payment for work done, and having met him ALL his equipment looks like new. Did I do OK?

You did fine. Keep that chain clean, Use a high quality cycle chain lube and you'll may never have to replace them. Go easy with the high pressure washing it has a way of going in places it shouldn't. Have Fun, Good Luck and God Bless.

My '49 8N is about 27 hp and 119.7 cubic inches.

From Google:

119.7 (cubic inches) = 1 961.53156 cubic centimeters

That is real close to 500cc = 7 hp.

Of course I know you can't equate displacement to hp.

Bore, stroke, aspiration, fuel, power train losses, etc.

You can't really compare a 4 cylinder water cooled high torque, low rpm engine to a single cylinder low toque, high speed 2 cycle engine. However a 4 cylinder 1000cc sport bike can put out well over 100 HP at over 10,000 rpms redline. Dave

Missed the original post, computer was down. I bought a 93 polaris 250 two years ago on a farm sale for $1000. It had been adult ridden and have had good luck so far. Just be careful not to break a brake lever. You can get aftermarket levers for yamaha, suzuki, and honda on the internet for $5-10, but only the polaris dealer has them for a polaris for $54 list price. He did let me have it for cost of $36 since they were selling out the parts for the older models. Lee

Polaris' are comparable to the Kawasakis.. I think you did alright, might be on the high side by a hundred bucks, but oh well.

i think ya did good. i bought my daughter a polaris sawtooth 200 2 yrs ago new was 3850 + tax. my buddy has a sportsman 90 for his kids, older one, 2 stroke he paid 900 for it. they make a good machine.

Is it a TrailBlazer 2 Cycle engine? If it is it is the same as mine ,mine is a 2001. Advice for longevity,Keep the Chain and Sprocket Clean. Mix Oil[30 Wt. Non Detergent] and Gas [91 Octane] to the exact proportion. Keep it Shedded and the Plastic and Seat covering will last a long time. It will go most any where a 4WD will go "but" MUD is a no-no. Your Price you paid is about average I think considering your description of the machine.

It is the 250 Trailblazer, 2 cycle engine. Came with a full, unopened quart of synthetic 2 cycle oil. Oil tank is nearly full, it mixes the oil and gas automatically. Regarding gasoline, someone mentioned 91 octane. Do I need 91, or can I use 87 and use an octane booster? DOUG

You should use 2 cycle oil designed for it. There are lots of good brands. Any motorcycle or ATV dealer will have the correct oil. Some synthetic oils can run up to 100 to 1 but most people don't go less than 50 to 1. Dave
