I'm looking at a Bostitch Stick Framing Air Nailer
can someone fill me in on the merits of the different kinds of nails (wire weld, plastic, paper etc) In my area Home Depot sell air nailers but have few stick nails in stock.
Thanks
John

If you have a Home Depot in your area then you probably have a full service nail and staple supply nearby, I am a cabinet maker and do business with a home owned mom & pop nail supply company. My advise would be to go to them and ask many questions and they can sell you what you need for your application, such as you do not need galvanized nails for framing something like a house or shed but galvanized nails would be recommended for a barn or deck. As you can probably guess galvanized nails are more expensive. There is also a lot of generic nails out there, some good and some bad, my supplier also rebuilds my guns for free as long as I pay for the parts they put in them. We recently have gotten a Home Depot in our area and although I do buy some things from them if you are needing a little bit of technical advise these mass merchandisers come up very short. By the way I just bought a paslode finish nailer on sale from my supplier $50 cheaper than I have seen in the tool catalogs and no shipping charges. Johnny in E.TX.

One thing to watch out for is that some localities do not permit the use of clipped head nails. Either checked with your local building officials or get a full head nailer. I just purchased a Proter Cable at home depot and really like the unit. I'm just a homeowner with sore shoulders from years of abuse. As to nail types, welded, plastic or paper appear to be dictated by the head type and angle. Also check the availablity and price of nails for the gun you choose. You want one that gives you some options as to supplier.

Hi John,

I do framing on the side and I have the Hatchi framing gun and I love it. Whats nice about it is that it shoots full round head nails and hot dipped gal. nails, rather than clip head nails and a coated nail that is suppose to prevent rust like other guns. I used it for everything from framing, back nailing to deck jobs. I bought mine from Home Depot.

Good luck,
Bill
