Has anyone used this stuff yet, they make some big claims. My old 91 Chevy 1500 pickups steering columb flops and wobbels all around, the Chevy dealer says the whole columb needs to be replaced. Im thinking that a roll of gorilla tape wraped around the columbs tilt area would be alot cheaper. Anyway i can think of a ton of uses for
this stuff if it really works?

go to the salvage yard and get a used column, prolly 100-150 dollars, will come with an ignition key, real easy swap.

Like said below, find a new mechanic, one with the customer's best interests at heart rather than just making a buck selling parts! Those capscrews in the column are the usual cause for a wobbly tilt column, I've tightened several up that way. Gotta have the tool to compress the column lock ring to get the snap ring off, and most likely a steering wheel puller too, they're cheap at most parts stores if you don't have them or can't borrow them. If it's not those screws that's the problem, it's not too tough once you're into the column that far to replace the pivot pins themselves(need a special tool to pull them, I made one myself when I worked at a GM dealer, probably available at parts stores too).

Whatever you do, if you're gonna be driving this on the road with other people around, DON'T just tape it up and forget about it! Kinda dangerous to be going down a two-lane road with oncoming traffic and suddenly lose control.

Get it properly repaired B-4 it falls apart! in reply to chuckinnc, 11-08-2007 13:14:16
There's 4 capscrews down in the bottom of that tilt wheel joint that COMMONLY shake loose.

It takes a bit of labor to get in there, but if you don't get them tightened back up, eventually the column will literally fall apart.

Suggest you find a REASONABLE mechanic who's been through this before, and get a quote for the couple of hours of labor that it takes to get the capscrews TIGHTENED (with a little Loctite, so it doesn't happen again).

Linked below is ONE site that explains how to do it yourself.

I used it to tape some plastic on some metal shelving and it fell off overnight. I cleaned the metal to befor putting it on. My thoughts are its a glorified duct tape.

I have used it. I drove my 4 wheeler through my back sliding window on my pickup, just broke the one pane, gorilla taped it about 6 months ago, hasnt even started to show wear yet from the weather. Over all a great product!!
