I have the typical taps & dies to put threads on home made hooks, eyes, u-bolts, etc. for use with nuts, and sheet metal. However, I am unable to find anyone who supplies dies for making threads on rod that are suitable for screwing into wood. Anyone out there know of a source? Thanks in advance.

If you are putting a metal rod into a piece of hardwood, regular coarse thread holds quite well as long as you didn't drill the hole into end grain. You can also use a "threaded insert" if the piece has to be removed and reinserted frequently. Threads on wood dowels need a special cutter, but even then they are pretty weak since they are cut across the grain.
