IVe got a bobcat 225 that runs good, welds good has about 570 hours on it. It has an Onan engine that runs on propane. the problem i am having is starting it the first time each day. i have to remove the air cleaner and cover the intake momentarily with my hand (choke) to get it started. then after that it will start fine the rest of the day, unless it sits quite a few hours between starts. this is the only propane engine ive ever been around. any ideas are appreciated. j

I have a 225 on propane. It has a Beam regulator which has to "sense" a slight vacuum or the fuel won't flow. Don't know if other types are like that or not. It starts easier when choked for a couple of seconds, even if it's hot.

I believe in this application the choke isn't altering the fuel/air mix, it's creating the necessary vacuum to allow fuel flow.

I've tried to read and understand the manufacturer's "how it works" write-up, but just wind up with a headache and another entry on my steadily growing "Things I Can't Figure Out" list.
