Its an early Powerstroke 7.3 diesel (Chuck, there's only one diesel engine available in an F-350). Good, reliable engine. Automatic transmission has a reputation as being the weak point in the drive train, depending on who you listen to.

Check out www dot thedieselstop dot com, they have a forum dedicated to the 7.3 engines. Sometimes you have to wade through the nonsense from the kids trying to make a hot rod out of one, but there is a lot of good info.

As far as price, it varies a lot depending on where you are. There's one on Craigslist here in Denver for $9500 with a manual transmission, 130K miles.

Oops, just re-read the original post and realized he's asking about an 87 F-350, not a 97. The pre-powerstroke diesels were kind of underpowered, (I had a 93 turbo) but at least mine was a good solid truck. Check out the pre-powerstoke forum a thedieselstop.

Sorry for the error,

Keith

You left out more than you put in.

What engine is in the truck ?
Where is it located ?
What kind and how much work might it need ?
What is the asking price ?
What kind of work will you be doing with it ?
Got pics ? We love pics !
etc, etc,

Try searching Ebay listings and closed autions to see what they bring.
