Husky 61 chain saw

I just got a Husky 61, I believe it's about 15-20 yrs old. What's the correct fuel mixture and what's the correct way to get it started ? Choke on, trigger locked ? Tks

i used stihl 40/1 ratio i bought a 61 from stihl dealer and always went there for all my supply used it for 20 yrs a real good sawe

I know that you didn't ask this but I will throw it out there anyway as it can be quite helpful if you ever need parts.

The husqvarna 61 shares most parts with the Husqvarna 262,268 and 272 as well as the Jonsered 625,630 super and 670 saws.

I have a 630 Super and I love it.

I have a Husky 61, bought new about 15 years ago. Fuel mix is one 3.2 oz can of good chainsaw oil to 2 gallons of gas. Have tried different combinations of starting it over the years, never have been real pleased. I have had to take off air filter and use ether. This is only for cold starts after it has been sitting a few days. Once started, it will start fine the rest of the day with throttle at idle. Presently, to start cold, I turn switch on, choke on , lock throttle on, usually 3-4 pulls starts it. You may need to replace the air filter and they aren't cheap. Replace spark plug occasionally too.

I think that you`d better recheck your math, 3.2 oz oil to 2 gallons of gas gives a ratio of 80:1, way too lean. Those 3.2 ounce bottles are for 1 gallon quantities of gas. This ofcourse would produce a ratio of 40:1 although Husky now says that you can run a ratio of 50:1 with the new and improved oils. I`d stick with 40:1.

I'll stand corrected on the oil mix. It was about dark when I went out and looked at the saw and fuel before answering.

Harvey4,

I don't know about a Husky 61, but I have a Husky 41 that's about 10 - 12 years old. To start it:

1. Turn on the switch
2. Pull out the choke
3. WITHOUT touching the trigger, pull the rope.

Mine always starts on about the 7th or 8th pull. When the trigger is squeezed, it releases the choke and allows it to go back in. If it's real cold, I sometimes pull the choke back out very briefly and then push it back in while the engine is stabilizing.

I love my Husky. I've replaced chains, one bar, and the two shock mounts that are on the handle that isolates it from the saw. That's all I've ever done to it, and it works great. Oh, I think I might have replaced the air filter one time, too.
