I have a case 580D backhoe that has diesel entering the oil pan. I recently installed a rebuilt fuel pump and new injectors. The truck runs fine but after it sits for a couple days the oil level is high because there is diesel getting into the oil system. Any help would be appreciated, is there anyway diesel could seep into the oil through the fuel pump. Or any other system or part.

Thanks

Did you replace the 2 "umbrella" seals on the pump shaft ?, the ones that face in opposite directions. A bad install will do it too.

I did install 2 new umbrella seals on the pump shaft, I timed pump with timing marks behind pump ID plate and with engine at TDC. Also made sure the timing marks on pump gear lined up. You stated a bad install and someone else stated self inflicted improper install. Is there something else I could have missed?

Thanks

The shaft seals are touchy to install. As you press the pump shaft forward into the timing case, the shaft seal tends to roll up on itself, rendering it useless for sealing diesel in the pump from getting into the crankcase. You need some sort of tool to pre-compress the shaft seal so that it gets started into the bore that receives the shaft without rolling under. I found that one of those pliers-like tools for removing press-lock fittings from EFI systems works fairly well for this.

It is self inflected, inproper pump installation
