Our electric DeWalt sawzall made a bang and threw out some smoke this weekend while cutting some pipe. It still works, but it seizes up every once in a while and seems to bang a lot on the farthest reach of the blade. Does this sound like a problem worth fixing or are the tools just throw-a-ways like everything else now?

Your saw may still be under warranty if you have bought it within the last couple of years and still have the reciept. Dewalt now has a 3 year parts and service warranty. You can call 1-800-4-Dewalt and give them your area code and they can give you the nearest authorized service center location. You may not even need the reciept they might be able to go off the date code on your saw.

I dont know if you have one but we got a shop around here that repairs power tools. Sound like it could be brushes. Had a DeWalt grinder do that but it quit right after. I only fix the things if the cost of fixin them would a be little over half of the new price. But I always keep them incase they might have some good parts to use on another.
