I owe you guys an apology for getting involved in a post that should have never been started on this board for that I apologize. The following was posted in response to my reply to a post last night. Re: OT...Patriotic but not Political in reply to Sid, 10-24-2007 20:28:31 Sid,
How did you come up with that from what I said? By the way, I earned the right to speak my mind in this country. Did you? Using family influence to get you into the National Guard, or getting a scholarship to study in another country don't count.

All the best, Stan

Stan, The jest of your post seemed to be do nothing let the authorities handle it. I disagree with that train of thought and that is the basis behind my reply. As far as earning that right NO I did not. It was given to me by the blood and sweat of our forefathers who fought to make this a free country. I suggest that the freedom we have today is a gift from God and nothing less. I suggest your right is a gift as well. I do not take that to mean we should not work to protect that right. I had no family influence that got me in the Guard. No I did not get a scholarship to study. I served in the US Army. So lets shake hand and leave this type of stuff for the OT board.

As service people I hold you in great respect. It"s good to see something worked out this easily.
I was not in the armed services and was looked down on for a long time. The recruiters that visited in my senior year in high school told me that with the condition of my eyes and my knee, I would be more valuable here startside (read, We don"t want you). But rest assured, I"m sure that majority of us that did not serve would take up arms and fight to the end to defend God and country if we were needed.

Hi,

As I said, I shouldn't have brought up the service issue, and I wish that I hadn't. I truly believe that being a good, law abiding citizen, a productive member of society, a good parent, and a good neighbor are the greatest service that a person can provide the country.

Because I found myself in a decided minority by talking about the value of obeying the law rather than taking matters into one's own hands, I began to feel that others viewed me as a mushy headed liberal who would prefer to have other people handle problems for me instead of doing so myself. Well, I have some liberal views and I have some conservative views, but I'm not mushy headed and I do handle my own problems. I brought up the service issue because it's a simple way to make the statement that you're not all talk. As to that being how you get rights in this country, it's not. Sid was right about that.

All the best, Stan

I got a feeling you and I could sit down and have some good arguments, or perhaps debates would be a better choice of words, and get up and leave just itching for a chance to sit down and do it again. Something has been eating at me that maybe you can answer. I spent a few years in WA and Tumwater keeps coming to mind lately for some reason. Isn't it around Olympia? Have I jumped to another conclusion that is what Oly stands for.

Sid,

That's the best idea I've heard in a long time. You're absolutely right, the kind of incendiary content that I, and others, have been posting in relation to this flag issue has no place on this forum. I also owe you and everybody else an apology for making this site less pleasant to come to for the kind of information it was created to provide.

I agree with what you say about the basis of the rights we enjoy in this country. It was stupid of me to try to turn it into a pi$$ing contest. It wasn't aimed at you, if it does any good to say that. You didn't say anything to make me mad.

Thanks again for being the bigger person about this.

All the best, Stan
