I'm told the new Fed. regs. limit the amount of lead that new batteries can have. As a result, most all the batteries are made in the same Mexican factories and regardless of brand.... will last about the same time.

I've always been an Interstate fan but I guess it pays to just shop price now.

Well, I wish I had thought to post that question two weeks ago. After shopping around locally for batteries, I bought six 8-volt Trojan batteries from Metroplex Batteries in Dallas (50 miles away.) I finally got around to putting them in the cart today. They cost $106 each. The old ones lasted six years, so I figure that's just over $100 per year for maintenance.

I buy mine at either Sam's or Costcos, simply because they are cheaper and easily available. I hear they are not the quality of Trojans or Interstates, but I've been running them in utilty carts for about three years with no problems.

Hi jhill,

The best deal I"ve got has been at the golf cart suppliers. I can usually find one company that sells at close to cost as a store leader. Seams like spring time brings the lowest cost of the year.

Six T-105"s last year cost me $72eh

Until more people try different brands for many years with excellant results, I"ll stick with what 99% have the best luck with, Trojan.

I was buying Trojan T-105s for $48 each two years ago. Last year they went up to $70, and now they are usually priced at $136 each - which is getting rediculous.

The Deka or "East Penn" batteries are not something new - they've been around for a long time and make OEM batteries for some auto companies. They are the largest independent battery company in the world. They are marketed under several different names. They have been tested and tried - and have held up just as well as the Trojans. I haven't cheked price recently though. Last set I bought were $48 each when the Trojans were $70.

For price, quality and longevity, Rolls Surrette still seems to be the best buy if you don't mind a long-range perspective. They cost more up-front, but last longer.

Sam's club has had good deals on them in the spring. We use a couple as backup power supply for a two way radio repeater system.

Depends where you live. Shipping is expensive, so you're usually better off buying locally. I use a lot of golf cart batteries in solar-electric installations. Trojan T-105s used to be the best deal - but lately the equivalents made by Deka and sold by NAPA have had better prices. And with NAPA, no shipping charges.
Try pricing a NAPA # 8144 locally and see what kind of price you get (Trojan T-105 equivalent). On the other hand, if you live near any solar-electric installers - try them. Most are in Florida or the Southwest - not in my area in New York.
