Does anybody have an idea why my 8hp briggs and stratton engine on my murray lawn mower wont start. It runs fine with fuel in its tank and it will start and stop perfectly but when it runs out of fuel and i refil it it just wont start.

Try this. Tip the repair guy gave me when I took my Craftsman, 6.75 Brigs in for hard starting.
Push and HOLD the primer bulb for five seconds with each push.
Seems it takes some time for the fuel to flow.
Don't know if it helps your problem, but my engine went from 5 pulls to start to one.

Got fooling with the neighbor's newer model last week. Seems as they went to some sort of non-adjustable carb on these things that ain't worth squat. If it has a primer bulb, you may need to push this several times after fueling it before it'll catch and run.

Did you check the tank for any dirt or something that is blocking the fuel supply? Also in-line fuel filter, gas hoses, ect for blockage or leaks. Best I can give you on this one.

I do have an older model smaller B&S on a push mower that won't start if it has less than a full tank of fuel, hot or cold. When the tank is full, it'll run on the second pull from cold or one pull on a hot start. Could not find anything specific wrong with it so I just fill it up an run it. Even if it runs out of fuel, fill the tank to the top and it'll start in a couple pulls.
