Hey guys, I got one of them cheap chink chain hoists. It quit workin!! It might just be a throw away thing, but here goes. When you work the chain and put a load on it, it dont hold it just slowly turns letting it down. I took it apart and found it has some"play" in the clutches in the side of it. Anybody had any luck patching these things? I had a buddy bring a "real USA" one over and it"s been sitting in a barn forever and it does the same thing. It"s a Yale brand. I"d had this other one forever and it worked great until recently. Probably get what you pay for, but the real one is doing the same thing. I"m not putting hardly any weight on it at all! They are both 1 ton"s and I"m not putting more than 200#"s on them????
Thanks in advance

Hi...Just took one of those Chinesse ones apart last week cause it had the same problem. I just needed to oil the shaft that the dog is mounted on. (that little lever that keeps the big gear from turning backwards) The spring the Chinesse used to engage the dog just doesn't have much pressure so the spring could not overcome the friction of a oilless shaft.

I had one that would creep down, took cover off and sprayed carb cleaner on the brake to get oil film off, works fine now.

What you are calling clutches could be the brake. See if you can tighten it up.
