I have a "Delden" opener, which is several years old, on an 8 foot single door. When I try to open it it will only open about 2 inches then go back down. Any help to solve the problem appreciated.

Look on the opener to see if it has 2 screws to set the sensetivities for opening and closing, turn screws to a higher setting, also make sure you don't have a broken spring on you door,HTH,Bob.

Check the door springs. Disconnect the opener from the door, there ought to be an emergency disconnect for use if the power is off, then try to open it by hand. If you can't lift it, the opener may be tripping on overload.

Hersel,

There are a few things that could be causing the problem.

The first thing to check is will the door open when you disconnect the opener. You can disconnect the opener by pulling down on a rope that disengages the L shaped bar that connects the door from the "T" bar of the opener. If the door does not open easily when you disconnect the opener it is probably a broken spring, or possibly one of the cables is off the drum on one end of the torsion bar.

If the door does open:

The opener has an adjustment for lift or up force. There is also a similar adjustment for up and down travel. Make sure that you adjust the one that increases or decreases force and do not change the travel.

If increasing the force does not make the door open, it is possible that you are having a problem with alignment of the electronic eyes. These are attached at the bottom of the track and are there to make sure the door does not operate if there is an obstruction. One or both should have a light on them which indicates that they are aligned. Probably a green light. Another thing to check is that both eyes are clean. Just wipe them off with a cloth.

Hope this helps. If you need more help, drop me an e-mail.

Sounds like something is catching and blocking the door causing the openers' safety reverse to activate.Check by pulling disconnect link on opener and moving door by hand.Common ill is for a door track bolt to be loose, catching and blocking a roller wheel.
Also if door frame has electric eye safety sensors at bottom corners, clean out and spiderwebs, debris, leaves etc that might be within their"sight".
