I have a 2 inch well casing that you drop the 4ft. screen down into the water table. The screen has a 2 ft. tail pipe on it.
Here is the problem----with the 2 inch well casing and the 1 1/4 screen the clearance is very small---and with the water pressure from the water supply down below it forces small amounts of sand and gravel up the 2 in. casing making it very difficult to force the screen down thru it.
I have done many of these but this one is giving me problems.
I had water running from another well all of the time down the well trying to keep the fine sand down below ythe casing with no luck this time.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I forgot you might try 6 feet (or whatever you can lift full of sand) of pipe or heavy wall pipe because with the smaller pipe you would loose weight. you might need the weight if you need to break up the silt. But any which way you wont have much money in the unit so you could build two of them so you you could experiment with it. I just have never done smaller casing. But it looks like it would work the same to me

If you can find a steel pipe that can fit in the casing, you need 4' of it. Cut teeth in the bottom of the pipe. Plug the bottom inside the pipe and make a hole big enough for a 3/8 pipe to run thru, sticking out about a 1/2 inch out the bottom of the pipe. And let the 3/8 pipe stick up 2 inches out the top end and thread a quick-coupler on it so you can hook it up to a air compressor. Put a crossbar in the top with a few links of chain on it so you can attach a pull rope to lower and raise the well cleaner. After positioning all the components tack weld them in place and weld the bottom plate and 3/8 pipe, and crossbar real good. Holding the air line and the lift line together lower the unit til it hits the bottom. Turn on the air and the unit will sink thru silt and sand, and if its hard bounce it up and down and let the teeth break up the compacted layers. As the air agitates it will carry silt and sand up between the casing and unit and deposit inside the unit. When finished turn off air, pull out and empty the sand and repeat until you reach original well depth. Dont let the unit go farther than its on length cause it can fluidize the sand and go down to deep to get it back up again. If this might help you? In siplicity its more less a bucket with a air tube runnin out the bottom to agitate. You would need welding experiance or someone that does if you dont. Good Luck

Hello KW Thanks for your time---now a few more questions.
I figured there was no end to the silt that could be down there always coming up the pipe--But once it is cleaned out it will make a small hole or cavity so the screen can be placed.

My casing is a 2in. so what do you suggest for my 4 footer--the pail--1 1/4 or an inch dia pipe??

With the pail pipe with the 3/8 pipe inside I can collect the sediment between those two pipes.

I really appreciate your time in this matter.

For the best results I need to know what dia. the pail pipe piece should be that goes down inside the 2 in./ casing.

Again many thanks for the idea.

Sorry I been away from my computer. All our wells are 4inch. I use about 3 inch. But since yours is 2inch I would try the 1 1/4 inch. As long as the fluid can go around the "pail". You dont want the pipe tofit tight in the casing. It may take a few swabs with a pipe that small. Then again it may not, I have never cleaned 2inch but it should work fine. You should be able to collect sand between the two pipes. Like I said it may take a few swabs with the smaller pipe size. It should work like mine just on a smaller scale. But if it works you'll save alot of money. If it works like a champ sounds like you will have to use it regular if you have that much trash coming up the casing. I hope I have helped you.
