Might have done good yesterday....

Tearing out everything to the studs and starting over from there is the work I did for many years, including at least one house that my wife and I lived in while the work was in progress. She now refers to that project as our time in hell. (To be fair, there were a number of outside factors that made that situation a lot worse than it needed to be. If everything else had been normal, she would probably have come away with a much more positive feeling about it---maybe consider it no more than the worst time of her life.)

My experience from doing that kind of work for more than 30 years is that it always takes about twice as long and costs more than twice as much as you estimate. But that's probably mostly just me. I've never gotten completely over the attitude that every day is going to be a good, productive day, and I've never done a job where that come anywhere near to being the case.
