Will an HEI in a small block Chevy slide into a '69 Buick 350, or is the gear different between the two?

The GM HEI (not the computer controlled type) is practically bullet proof. Most of the racers around this area spend hundreds on Mallory and Accel distributors and ignition systems then go to the track and get spanked by somebody with a GM HEI. In 1979 I fitted my 64' Impala SS 409 with an HEI out of a 76' small block (about an hour in metal shop to make a collar). Felt like it added 50 horse the that old girl, and the 2-4 Rochesters never fouled a plug after that.
Dad hated that car!

Never had an ounce of trouble out of an HEI either. See no point in leaving the points in when I can get an HEI from a later Buick- just had to clear up which HEI to get. Got Chevy's laying around.

Also plan on paying someone who knows what he's doing to rebuild the Q-jet that's on it now. They're as good as gold when right. If I go aftermarket on the carb, it'll be Edelbrock, but it'll only be one.

I have 2 ford trucks now. In 30 years of Chevy and GMC ownership I never had one leave me walking. I've has these 2 fords a total of 4 years and have been left walking twice. Both times because of Ford's electronic ignition. I just don't have the time these days to machine a GM HEI body to fit the Fords.

Have a friend that is building a Model A (if I remember right) hot rod. Blue Oval fan all the way, GM ignition for his project though. I'm thinking he said there is a kit for the Ford conversion.

The one thing the Blue Oval (mark of the beast) group got right was location of the distributor.

Will not fit - or even come close. You could try to find an HEI from a later model Buick 350.

The whole body of the Distributor is different. You can use a small block Chevy dist in a Big block Chevy but that is about it. If you still have a points dist and the bushings are in decent shape get a Petronic's kit and put it in.

A Pertonix (original type) unit is a POOR substitute for a factory HEI distributor.

The Pertronix Ignitor II IS capable of driving a pretty HOT coil, though.

Must be the gear is different between the big block Buick and the small block, couldn't remember. Not a fan of points, probably look into a later model Buick 350 HEI. Thanks.

Not sure but I did the same thing from a chevy 350 to an older chevy 400 small block. After 25 years I'm still not sure which plugs to use. The original 400 plugs seem to work.
