I'm tryin' to find a source for a used 120 gallon (not pounds) tank. I'm installing a propane fireplace and the local dealers will only drop to a minimum 100 gallon tank. Yeah, they'll lease a tank for $60 a year, but I don't want to get locked into there fuel price structure. I'd rather own a tank, and then be able to shop around for the best propane deal but a used tank is scarce in these parts. I'm in Eastern WA , so any leads on tanks? bjr

My current Tractor Supply sales flyer has a 100lb propane cylinder for $90.85. The ad ad says that all cylinders 50lb or larger are overfill protection device exempt.

Or if you are within driving distance of 20187, I'll give you one.

I went through the same nonsense here in New York. We don't use a lot of propane - so most of the local companies would only install one small tank - and fill at the highest rate. And, to add insult to injury - we ran out several times. That, because if our road was bad in the winter on delivery day - they'd just skip us. We finally found a small gas company - a two man operation. They prefer to have customers buy their own tanks and then come and fill once or twice a year at the lowest rate. Works well for everyone. I bought a new 500 gallon tank from the guy for $600. I hated spending the money on a new one - but used tanks seem to be scarce. We also bought two new smaller tanks for our cabin in the Adirondack mountains. We bought them at the Tractor Supply Company store (TSC) and have had no problem getting them filled by the local gas company. But, they don't come with aux. fill valves - so you have to unhook them to fill.

TSC sells 100 gal propane tanks. If you own em you will have to haul em to get em filled though.

around here the propane providers will not fill a tank unless it has a current inspection date and the only people that inspect tanks are propane dealers . do you catch the theory

I think you mean the date on the safety valve and not the tank itself --- the tanks are about 1/4" to 1/2" thick --- but it's the safety valve that counts ....

Gosh that's odd ---- why can't they have a standard for the USA --- LP Gas is LP Gas in any state --- and so are the tanks .... that's government for ya -----

Around here 120gal"Pigs" are quite rare to find as they are in high demand being the largest tank not requiring setback from structure. For several yrs I used a pr of 100lb bottles manifolded together for my shop but with age, health and "upright transport" requirement now in effect, went to a new leased aluminum 120 Pig last yr.Sometimes you can find a dealer that will sell you the tank on time(ie:rent to own)and I have discovered one dealer that would have
filled my bottles off the truck.Another point here about "lock-in prices".I always wind up paying "days price"as my total annual usage is below minimum for lock in(Check the fine print)
