Powermatic planer

I have a big Powermatic 18" planer. I was able to download a manual but it does not tell me about one device on the machine. There is a know up near the head that looks like it rotates and is marked P R S. Any clue what it does? Machine runs fine and planes okay.

Not familiar with your machine. Could it be used to lock the head in place so that it doesn't "drift down" as it runs?

Yes, I meant knob. This evening, I'm gonna take the cover off where that knob it located and see if that will help me some.
