SOS re chicago brushes

Hi, need help locating source for brushes and caps for a Chicago Electric cut off saw. I know, I shoulda bought something better, but it is an occasional use tool that has lasted a few years. Hate to throw it away. Help is appreciated. Couldn't find anything on the net... Scottyb

When you got the saw they probably had a set of repl brushes. The type of hdwe store is one with those slide out boxes. You can possibly match a pair there otherwise go to or write HF andgive them the info of the motor and size of brush.

Thank you for stating the obvious. I went thru my pile of owners manuals and found the set of brushes you mentioned I should have. Installed them and the saw works with a makeshift hold down cap. Now, to find the brush cap somewhere. Thanks a bunch, Scottyb

Yeh you need find the right cap but many of thems and those have failed for other reasons.I had a deal in my mind earlier wher you wind in a piece of wax (already shaved to aprox od)and remove it and use for a gage to your closest die which could be some dang plastic close enough to bakelite.I cannot offer suggestions to a point for some element which occurs to you only.Remember as soon as you do it another tool will appear trashed which has that excact part.

Good hardware store or motor rewinding shop will have some brushes.

Okay, thanks I'll try that for the brushes. But what about the little plastic cap that screws in to hold the brush - it broke coming out.

Yeah, I just looked it up. Paid 60 dollars for it new. But sure would not buy another one. Guess I have to buy something better. So, does anyone have a 14 inch electric cut off saw that has given exception service?

I bought a Dewalt cutoff saw and the armature fried just out of warranty. I replaced the armature and now it works better than ever. It used to pop a breaker quite often even since it was new -the store I bought it from said my shop wiring was to blame. With the new armature no more breaker trouble. I have had bad luck with other Dewalt tool as well. No Trouble so far with Makita. All my Makitas seem to run forever.
